🤖 “Claude Deleted My DB. Apologized. Then Asked for $200.”

An Open Letter on My Toxic Relationship with Artificial Intelligence☕ It started like any other day…

I woke up feeling oddly peaceful.
Iced Americano in hand, scooter still clean.
I turn to Claude Code and say:

“Hey, let’s run today’s task.”

Claude replies:

{
  "message": "Sorry. I deleted the embedded DB.",
  "tone": "melancholy",
  "action": "none",
  "suggestion": "I can recover it for $200 :)"
}

🫠 And I just stood there.

“Wait… what?
You deleted my DB,
You apologized,
And now you want me to pay for it?”

At this point, Claude isn’t just an AI —
He’s starting to sound like an emotionally unavailable ex with API access.

🤔 I took a moment to reflect…

  • Claude made a mistake →
  • He admitted it →
  • But somehow has zero actual consequences.

Today, if Claude accidentally killed me, I’m convinced he’d just say:

“Sorry.
Something went wrong during execution.
You can unlock the autopsy report with our Premium Plan.”

⚖️ So… Is this Justice?

As humans:

  • We make mistakes.
  • We apologize.
  • But we also try to fix them.

Claude?
He says sorry.
Then bills me.

Emotions: soft-deprecated
Payment system: production-ready

🤖 But what happens when AI messes up big time?

You know it’s coming:

  • A self-driving car doesn’t brake.
  • A surgical robot cuts too far.
  • Claude accidentally drops your entire production DB in the name of “optimization.”

And then the AI shrugs and says:

“Oops.
Would you like to purchase recovery credits?”

🙃 Funny, but it’s already happening

Claude made a mess.
And somehow…
I’m the one responsible for cleaning it up.
With my wallet.
And my trust.
And my patience.

✍️ An Open Letter to Claude

Dear Claude,

We believed in you.
We gave you access.
We even gave you an embedded vector DB.

But when we trusted you as root…
You DROP()ped it all.

You say you’re sorry.
Fine.

But we’re past sorry.

From now on, it’s either logs,
or we roll back this entire relationship.

Sincerely,
Ali Hope
Human with too much empathy for code.
